About Me

I (Bob Thomas) am a former cubicle-dwelling I. T. contract worker who took minimalism and world travel to heart, sold, gave away, or threw away almost everything I had, packed two suitcases, and set out to experience life outside the corporate cubicle.

This led me to Ukraine for five years where I worked on several online businesses and quickly assimilated by teaching English on the side (both of which I now continue to do remotely from the U.S.), made many friends, and had a life-changing encounter with the Ukrainian medical system, and then another life-changing encounter with Russia’s military attack.

Since fleeing Ukraine amidst air raid sirens and aerial bombardment I wrote a book about my experiences in Ukraine. If you would like to check it out, it is available in Kindle and paperback at American in Ukraine: From Corporate Cubicle to a Life Changing Adventure!.

I embrace the minimalist traveler lifestyle, and love to write about all things related to that mixed in with my commentary on the news of the day (at present nearly 100% of my focus is news on the Ukraine war).

I am a Christian and have a Master of Theology (ThM) degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.

This site is my venue for publishing my thoughts, opinions, and commentary and analysis on news (often related to Ukraine).

If you’re coming to the “About Me” page because you’ve read something I’ve written about Ukraine, Russia, or the war and want to know my credentials, this is it… I lived in Kyiv, Ukraine for five years, had direct, one-on-one interaction with hundreds of regular Ukrainians from all walks of life.

It doesn’t necessarily mean I’m right, but I’m not just another couch potato with an opinion.
